Easy Blue Zone Breakfast Smoothie

by Gina Dal Molin

This Blue Zones Banapple smoothie is my go-to everyday breakfast. Perfect for everyone but especially for us moms on the go! 😉

I can easily whip this up, with only 4-ingredients inspired by the longest living people on the planet and sip on it during my hectic mornings of getting both kids ready while trying to leave for the office (see exhibit A below). I also like to add oats and frozen avocado to boost calories, making this a complete meal replacement. It’s not only easy but it’s packed with Blue Zone approved ingredients including TURMERIC!

Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, big immune booster and basically anti-everything bad fighter lol. It also has a ton of anti-aging properties which is why Turmeric is a staple in Okinawa. Okinawa, Japan is labeled as one of the five blue zones in the world. Its main compound, curcumin, has been proven in studies to slow the progression of dementia, a reason why Okinawans may suffer much lower rates of Alzheimer’s disease than Americans. Turmeric has been a prominent staple in the Okinawan diet for hundreds of years, which is key in helping them live longer – sign me up.

What the heck are Blue Zones?

“Blue Zones” are geographic areas with lower rates of chronic diseases and the greatest concentration of centenarians, people who live to at least 100. In contrast, the average life expectancy in the U.S. is currently 76, sooo I want to learn all their secrets to living a healthy and long life. The man behind all the Blue Zone research is longevity expert, Dan Buettner. I highly recommend his cookbook “Blue Zones Kitchen” and watching his Netflix special “Live to 100, Secrets of the Blue Zones”.

I love this smoothie and hope you will too, let me know if you try it out.

Cheers to 100!
