Cherry Brazilian Lemonade (Limonada Suíça de Cereja)

This creamy, frothy citrus drink is one of Brazil’s most beloved beverages, and despite its name, it’s actually made with fresh limes, not lemons.
After making the classic version, I couldn’t resist giving it a summer makeover with one of my favorite seasonal fruits: fresh sweet cherries.
The result? A gorgeous blush-pink Cherry Brazilian Lemonade that’s bright, creamy, sweet, tangy, and unbelievably refreshing. It’s the kind of drink that tastes like something you’d order at a boutique café or tropical resort, yet it comes together in less than 10 minutes with just a handful of ingredients.
Whether you’re hosting a backyard barbecue, relaxing by the pool, or looking for a fun non-alcoholic summer drink, this recipe is guaranteed to impress.
What Is Brazilian Lemonade?
Brazilian Lemonade, also known as Limonada Suíça, is a traditional Brazilian drink made by blending whole fresh limes with water before straining the mixture and blending it again with sweetened condensed milk and ice.
The result is a light, creamy, frothy drink with the perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors.
Unlike American lemonade, Brazilian Lemonade gets its signature flavor from the lime peel, which is why it’s important to leave the peel on, but only blend it briefly to prevent bitterness.

G’s Tips For The Best Cherry Brazilian Lemonade
Blend the Limes for Only 10-15 Seconds
This is the biggest secret to an authentic Brazilian Lemonade. Overblending releases bitterness from the white pith, while a quick blend extracts all of the bright citrus oils from the peel.
Use the Sweetest Cherries You Can Find
Fresh Bing cherries are my favorite because they’re naturally sweet, juicy, and create the prettiest blush-pink color.
Chill Everything First
Using ice-cold water, cold sweetened condensed milk, and lots of ice creates that signature frothy texture and keeps the drink refreshing.
Always Strain the Mixture
Straining removes the pulp and bits of peel, leaving you with a silky smooth lemonade that’s light and creamy.
Enjoy It Fresh
Brazilian Lemonade is best enjoyed immediately after blending while the foam is still thick and airy.
Adjust Sweetness Naturally
If your cherries aren’t very sweet, simply add another tablespoon or two of sweetened condensed milk instead of granulated sugar. It keeps the drink authentic while maintaining its creamy texture.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why is it called Brazilian Lemonade if it’s made with limes?
In Brazil, the fruit commonly used is known as limão, which refers to the type of lime used in the drink. The English translation stuck as “Brazilian Lemonade,” even though fresh limes are the star ingredient.
Can I make this ahead of time?
Brazilian Lemonade is best served immediately after blending. As it sits, the foam settles and the lime peel can gradually become more bitter.
Can I use frozen cherries?
Yes! Frozen cherries work well if fresh aren’t in season. Let them thaw slightly before blending.
Can I make it dairy-free?
Sweetened condensed milk is what gives this drink its signature creamy texture, but you can substitute a sweetened condensed coconut milk if needed. The flavor will be slightly different but still delicious.
